Professor Daniel Cohan will discuss themes from his forthcoming book (“Confronting Climate Gridlock”), focusing on the technologies that will be most crucial for decarbonizing energy. He will argue that actions taken to decarbonize electricity and promote electrification and clean fuels in the United States will be pivotal to mitigating climate change globally.

About the Presenter

Professor Cohan is an associate professor of civil and environmental engineering at Rice University and a recipient of a National Science Foundation CAREER award. He is the author of over 50 peer-reviewed publications, 70 op-ed articles, and the forthcoming book, Confronting Climate Gridlock: How Diplomacy, Technology, & Policy Can Unlock a Clean Energy Future.

About the Presenter

Mr. Baumer has been with the City of Austin since 2011 where he manages the Climate Program in the City of Austin’s Office of Sustainability. His primary duties include overseeing the implementation of climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies across the City organization and community. Prior to the City of Austin, Mr. Baumer spent 10 years working in the environmental consulting industry. Mr. Baumer holds an MBA in Sustainable Management from the Presidio Graduate School and undergraduate degrees in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering from Purdue University.

 

 

Management Paradigms – Effective and Visionary Strategy to Protect Physical and Human Assets Using ISO Standards

This presentation gives a brief overview of three International Standards Organization (ISO) programs (ISO 31000, 55001, and 45001) that deal with safety, risk and asset management and show how the three management systems may be used in tandem within an organization that values its property, processes and people.  It will also show how a potential convergence of these three systems may address an organization’s needs to minimize risk while protecting assets and workers within an effective, visionary strategy.

About the Presenter

Ms. Elmore is a Principal Consultant in BSI’s Sustainability/Social Responsibility/Management Systems/EHS and Supply Chain Auditing Practices.  She is a certified ISO Lead Auditor with experience in a number of EHS ISO standards.  She has over 20 years of experience as a business owner, sustainability leader, high-level project and organizational operations manager, industry executive and state regulator.  Ms. Elmore is experienced in sustainability issues and takes the lead with BSI’s Sustainability Practice for Climate Issues.  She is experienced in EHS auditing, training, regulatory impacts, policy planning, and organizing project studies.
